CARLISLE REAL ESTATE

CARLISLE, ON REAL ESTATE

Carlisle is a small community located about 7 km north of Waterdown.  There are approximately 930 homes, housing about 2800 people.  Carlisle is a wonderful place to raise children.  Every subdivision within Carlisle has play parks for the kids and the village is surrounded by farmland and forest with Bronte Creek running through.  There is a mix of homes from Bungalows to Two-Storey on lots ranging from 1/2 acre to 2 acres.  I live in Carlisle and have bought and sold Carlisle homes for the past 15 years.

The downtown of Carlisle is located at the crossroads of Carlisle and Centre Roads. The downtown area includes: two corner-stores, dry cleaners, flower shop, LCBO/ Beer Store, The Carlisle Bakery, Cascata Bistro, Bates and Green Auto Service and Canada Post. Just outside the “downtown” area is the Carlisle Medical Centre and pharmacy, two private chiropractic offices, a hair salon and the Carlisle Community Centre.

The Community Centre includes an ice rink, where many events and fundraisers are held by both local churches and sports teams. The Ice Rink host the local Flamborough Hockey Team as well as many minor league teams.  The Optimist Club runs a Learn to Skate program for children from October to March. The surrounding grounds include a baseball diamond, tennis court, swings and a play structure. The Community Center also houses the ABC Nursery Co-Op School for daycare.  A new library was built in the former TD Bank branch.

To the east of the crossroads on Carlisle Road is the well-loved Dutchman’s Gold honey company where all natural honey is cultivated and sold, along with maple syrup and related products like candles.

On the nearby 8th Concession Road, just off Centre Rd. lies Somerset Farm Store where locals and visitors can pick up fresh produce and homemade pies. West Avenue Cider is part of the Somerset Orchard family.  West Ave. Cider Co. is located on Concession 8 and offers Cider on Tap on Fridays to Sundays in the off season before opening full time during the summer with a back patio and pizza oven overlooking the orchards.  The also have a small farmers market and bakery on site.

For golf lovers, we have The Carlisle Golf & Country Club is a 27-hole public golf course and The Dragon’s Fire golf course, which is considered one of the most challenging courses in Ontario.

Carlisle also has Bronte Creek which winds its way as a river from Courtcliffe Park, through Carlisle and onto Progreston Falls under the old train bridge.  It’s a very scenic and beautiful spot.

The community dates back to the 1850’s but was redeveloped in the 1980’s with luxury homes and bungalows.  Homes are priced anywhere from $800,000 to $2 million on half to 2 acre lots.

Parks and Recreation

Carlisle has Courtcliffe Park with houses numerous soccer fields, parks, baseball diamonds, and small forests.  Children can join a league in the summer and play weekly at the park.  Carlisle is also home to the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides that have programs at various age levels run out of the United Church.  Courtcliffe Park is a naturalized area with streams, bridges, walkways and paved trails. There are four middle-sized soccer fields and one mini soccer field in the park, as well as ample parking. This park also contains swings, and non-traditional play equipment designed for 5-12 year olds, although 9-14 year olds find it particularly attractive because it challenges them.  Trout and other species of fish are being restocked into Bronte Creek.  Existing fishing opportunities are pumpkinseed, creek chub and white sucker but also including large mouth bass, northern pike and brown trout may also be angled in the slow-moving waters. Extensive work has been done to dredge the creek and make it deeper to encourage a more active water flow and increase the local fish populations.

Carlisle also has it’s own Tennis Club located in the Palamino Subdivision.  It is a private members only club with 2 courts that functions from May to October with access via lockbox.  It is open to anyone to join and they have lessons for adults and kids and they hold regular tournaments and weekly round robins.
